The Function of Be

Seperti yang sudah dijelaskan di pos sebelumnya, fungsi utama To Be adalah sebagai kata kerja bantu. Namun kalian tau gak, sebenarnya To Be itu fungsinya banyak. Berikut ini fungsi dari To Be, check this out!

1. To talk about nationality (Untuk menjelaskan kebangsaan)

Example: 

• I am Indonesian.
• Lee Min Ho is South Korean.
• John, Taylor and Mike are American.

2. To identify things (Untuk menjelaskan sesuatu)

Example:

• It is an English class.
• My hobbies are singing and dancing.
• My major is French.

3. To describe people/ things (Untuk mendeskripsikan orang/ sesuatu)

Example:

• I am happy.
• My parents are diligent.
• Ms. Neni is beautiful.

4. To talk about occupations (Untuk mengatakan/ menjelaskan pekerjaan)

Example: 

• He is a teacher.
• They are students.
• I am a businessman.

5. To talk about hometowns or places (Untuk menjelaskan asal atau tempat)

Example:

• I am from China.
• Wayne Rooney is from England.
• They are from Thailand.

6. To talk about where people and things are (Untuk menjelaskan keberadaan seseorang/ benda)

Example:

• I am in Papua.
• She is at London.
• We are on the ship.

7. To talk about ages (Untuk menunjukkan usia)

Example:

• I am 18.
• My grandparents are 80 years old.
• Mrs. Laili is 35.

8.To talk about the groups, teams or clubs that people are in (Untuk menunjukkan orang yang tergabung dalam suatu kelompok)

Example:

• Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson are in a band.
• I am in the Grammar club.
• De Gea is on the football team.

Present of Be - Positive Statements

To Be adalah kata kerja bantu yang berfungsi menghubungkan subjek dengan objek dalam suatu kalimat. To be bisa berarti "adalah", namun juga bisa tidak memiliki arti. To be yang tidak berarti apa- apa ini hanyalah sebagai pelengkap dalam suatu kalimat bahasa Inggris agar sesuai kaidah penulisan bahasa Inggris yang baik. To be terdiri dari is, am, are. IS
Is digunakan untuk orang ketiga tunggal seperti: She, He, It. 
Contohnya:

1. She is an English lecturer. (Dia adalah seorang dosen Bahasa Inggris)
2. He is a popular singer. (Dia adalah seorang penyanyi terkenal)
3. It is a sweet candy. (Ini adalah sebuah permen yang manis)
4. Mrs. Dawson's hobby is cooking. (Hobi Nyonya Dawson adalah memasak)

AM

Am hanya digunakan untuk orang pertama tunggal seperti: I.

Contohnya:

1. I am single. (Saya jomblo)
2. I am from Manchester. (Saya berasal dari Manchester)
3. I am in Reading class. (Saya berada di kelas Membaca)

ARE

Are digunakan untuk orang kedua tunggal/ jamak seperti: They, We, You.
Contohnya:

1. They are from London. (Mereka berasal dari London)
2. We are friends forever. (Kita adalah teman selamanya)
3. You are late. (Kau terlambat)
4. You are incredible students. (Kalian adalah murid- murid yang menakjubkan)
5. Lala, Lili and Leli are in Grammar class. (Lala, Lili dan Leli berada di kelas Grammar)
6. Melisa and I are on a basketball team. (Melisa dan saya berada dalam sebuah tim basket)
